Expo 2000 Hanovre

For the first time in its history, Germany hosted a Universal Exhibition in 2000, bringing together in Hanover, on a 160 ha site, more than 173 countries and international organizations, around the theme:

"Man, Nature and Technology: the emergence of a new world".

The idea for an Exhibition of this magnitude in Hanover dates back to 1988. The country wanted the event to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Federal Republic of Germany. Alongside the life of the pavilions, the Expo Hanover site hosted a series of events and activities including over 200 groups and orchestras that performed during the 6 months of the Exhibition.

The Exhibition was held from June 1 to October 31, 2000.

Key figures:

  • 173 participating countries and international organizations
  •  More than 18 million visitors.
