Expo 2010 Shanghai
It was in Monaco, at the Grimaldi Forum, on December 3, 2002, that the Bureau International des Expositions appointed the city of Shanghai to organize the 2010 Universal Exhibition. The great dream of this Chinese city, pearl of the East, then became reality.
This exhibition was held under the theme "A better city, a better life". The increase in the number of people living in urban areas raises the question of social diversity and the resulting social-cultural conflicts, safety, pollution and even hygiene. The objective of this Exhibition was thus to get participants to imagine harmonious solutions for the urban environment of the future. In particular, the Municipality of Shanghai held a unique and very large-scale event, celebrating 25 years of uninterrupted growth.
The Exhibition lasted 6 months, from May 1 to October 31, 2010.
Key figures:
- 190 participating countries
- 73 million visitors
- 523 hectares
This Exhibition "was the largest Universal Exhibition of all time in terms of number of countries present, number of visitors and surface area".
